With new publications in ACS Nano and Advanced Functional Materials  and several more manuscripts under revision, Dr. Jahed’s lab wrapped up a successful year with a team hike to Three Sisters Falls. It was a refreshing day to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the great outdoors together.

The Bione Lab is excited to have participated in the GEAR research apprenticeship program for the first time this year. Hillary and Ryan, two second-year undergraduate students, joined our lab for a year-long research experience focused on characterizing nanoelectrode arrays for electrophysiological applications. Mentored by Dhivya and Iswerya, they gained valuable hands-on experience with cutting-edge research techniques. We are proud to support the development of future scientists through programs like GEAR.

For the third year, our lab hosted two high school students from Mexico, Anisa and Andrea, through the ENLACE program. Mentored by Dhivya Pushpa Meganathan and Anum Tahir, they successfully reduced the impedance of nanoelectrode arrays via electrodeposition, leading to improved signal quality. Their work has valuable implications for future research utilizing these arrays. We are grateful for our continued partnership with the ENLACE program and the opportunity to mentor these talented students.

We are proud to announce that Dr. Zeinab Jahed has been named a 2024-2025 Hellman Fellow. This prestigious fellowship provides essential support for early-career faculty at UC San Diego, empowering Dr. Jahed to advance her innovative research in Nanoengineering and explore pioneering applications in her field, supporting both her work and the talented students in our lab.

Dr. Zeinab Jahed has received the Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor Award in the Aiiso Yufeng Li Family Department of Chemical and Nano Engineering for the 2022-2023 academic year. This award recognizes exceptional mentorship and dedication to graduate student success. Dr. Jahed received this honor based on numerous nominations from her students, highlighting her commitment to fostering a supportive research environment. Congratulations to Dr. Jahed on this well-deserved recognition!
